Nowhere else in the US looks or feels like this. The art, the light, the adobe — genuinely its own thing.

Editorial standards
Places we considered
and didn't recommend.

Editors reject things. We considered more than forty destinations before publishing seven. Some are beautiful places that simply don't create the right conditions for two people to actually connect.

That's the filter. Not whether a place is famous, or photogenic, or frequently recommended. Whether it works for this relationship, at this pace, for this kind of weekend.

Napa Valley, California
Beautiful, but structured around tasting rooms that move you from stop to stop. The pace is set by the itinerary, not by each other. We want destinations that leave more room for conversation, not less.
New York City
Too much to do, too much stimulation, and too easy to spend three days ticking off a list without actually being together. Great city. Wrong format for what we're trying to create.
Sedona, Arizona
The landscape is extraordinary. But the town itself — traffic, jeep tours, crystal shops — works against the pace we look for. May revisit if our research changes that assessment.
Any beach resort
The problem with resorts is they're designed to keep you there. Everything is provided, nothing requires a decision together. We prefer destinations where the choices you make together are part of the experience.
Carmel-by-the-Sea, California
Beautiful, and we considered it seriously. But visitor pressure in Carmel has reached a point where locals are frustrated and the character of the town is under strain. We'd rather send people to places that want them there. We'll revisit if that changes.
